About Nashville

Two people riding Bird scooters in downtown Nashville were hit by a vehicle on Sunday afternoon.

It happened around 5:30 p.m. on Union Street and Fifth Avenue North.

Officials on the scene told News4 the driver fled the scene after the crash. No details were immediately released about the condition of the people riding the scooters, but the fatal team has been called to the crash site.

Last week, the city issued a cease and desist letter just two days after Bird scooters made their debut in Nashville.

In the letter, city officials said the electric scooters were blocking sidewalks. It also said they violate several Metro codes. Bird Scooters were given 15 days to move the machines.

The city said it was working on several measures that could allow them to return.
